In recent years, web 3.0 has received a lot of attention. Web 2.0 is still very popular but web 3.0 is gaining traction across all industries.

This article will explain the differences between web 2.0 and web3.0 technology.

Differences Between Web 2.0 and Web 3.0

Let’s quickly see the major differences between Web 2 and Web 3 Technologies.

Web2.0

Web 2.0 refers to the current phase of the internet we have been using for over a decade.

Web 2.0 features include user-generated content, adaptability and interaction as well as a central database system.

Web 2 is used by the majority of websites such as Facebook, Twitter and Nairaland etc.

Despite all the benefits web 2.0 has brought to our lives there are still some significant drawbacks.

These include data security and centralization. Large organizations often sell customer data to ad agencies without their knowledge in order to make more money.

A few years back, a microblogging platform banned an incumbent president for violating its terms. This was possible because it was a centralized network.

This issue led to the development of a new web technology that encourages decentralization.

Web3.0

Web 3.0 has eliminated the concept of centralization or, in other words, intermediaries.

Web 3.0 does away with the need for a central database and instead uses a blockchain to store data.

A blockchain is a network of interconnected blocks that stores data and states in sequential groups. Each block contains duplicates of the data and states.

Blockchain is similar to linked lists, however it uses a hash to refer back to the previous block. A linked list uses pointers.

Blockchain uses a consensus mechanism to validate new blocks before they are added on to the block chain.

All nodes must agree before new blocks can be added. Web 3.0 is transparent because all users have access, unlike Web 2 where only the organization has access.

To validate new blocks, blockchain uses a concept called consensus mechanism.

This means that each user must update the other blocks before they are added to the block chain. This makes it difficult and secure.

Web 3.0 has addressed the problems of centralization, user privacy, and scaling.

However it has not yet solved the cost efficiency and scaling issues. The process of adding a block to the Blockchain takes a lot of time and money. This can lead to resource waste.

Web 3.0 is still very much in its infancy. There is still much to be excited about as the world adapts to this new technology.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Web 3.0 technology is very much promising and assumed to be the future.

This is me leaping into the Blockchain Technology.

You can expect more web 3 and blockchain content from me on this medium in the coming days.
